EquiTech Solutions HK is the technology arm of So Bloodstock. What started as Alexander’s research dissertation at the University of Hong Kong led to the establishment of the funded HKU Equine Analytics and Bioinformatics Laboratory and, ultimately, to the formation of EquiTech Solutions HK.
Alex founded The Hong Kong University Equine Analytics & Bioinformatics Laboratory in November 2024. The laboratory was funded by the University of Hong Kong’s School of Computing and Data Science, and was chaired by Alexander So, Dean of Computer Science, Professor Lam Tak Wah, Professor Loretta Choi, and John Foote.
The laboratory focused on biomechanics, conformation, phenotyping, and endoscopic analysis. Due to its structure and academic restrictions, the Laboratory was shut down in January 2026 and spun off as EquiTech Solutions HK. Alexander So, Jerry Tam, and John Foote have continued with EquiTech, while other team members have focused on their academic studies. This natural spin-off allows EquiTech to commercialize and partner with non-domestic institutions in the equine field.
From Racing to Technology
The So family has been in the racing world since 2005. As a father-and-son duo, Chris and Alex started So Bloodstock to create a systematic approach towards racing. With the help of the legendary John Foote, a close family friend and Alex’s mentor, the team has been actively attending sales and developing relationships with various stakeholders in the racing world.
So Bloodstock has a keen interest in developing in three main areas: Racing, Education, and Technology. Currently, they actively races horses internationally, including in Hong Kong, Japan, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Alex has collaborated on technology initiatives across the global thoroughbred industry partners with and consults for multiple equine institutions globally through EquiTech Solutions HK. Equitech is at the forefront of integrating traditional bloodstock expertise with advanced technology.

To create meaningful change in the equine world by developing and implementing technology that is effective and refines everyday processes that are routinely performed.
To preserve and honor the knowledge and legacies of important figures in the thoroughbred world that could be lost with the retirement of industry cornerstones, e.g., John Foote & Greg Nash.
To create databases that can aid discoveries, preserve knowledge, and to envision the industry from a new angle.
